Preyan is part of a multidisciplinary group of engineers and scientists at the Pollution Research Group, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), whose core aim is to conduct innovative research into providing water and sanitation solutions for the eThekwini Municipality and South Africa. She graduated in 2011 with a Master of Science in Biology from UKZN. Currently, she is completing a PhD in Engineering examining the feasibility of decentralised wastewater treatment systems in eThekwini for dense social housing schemes and informal settlements under a grant from the South African Water Research Commission. From May 2016, Preyan has served on the South African Young Water Professionals KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Chapter and the National Committee as the UKZN Institutional Champion and Treasurer, respectively. She is passionate about finding ways to solve water related environmental issues and implementing reuse strategies for treated wastewater.
